1) Will it fit and work on my “2009 Montague Swiss Bike LX”?
2) Where can I buy it, I can’t find it on Amazon or anywhere else?

Comment on Packing a Montague Bike for Airline Travel by James Sowerwine https://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2022/10/packing-montague-for-airline-travel/#comment-187903 Sat, 12 Jul 2025 07:22:11 +0000 https://www.montaguebikes.com/?p=86129#comment-187903 In reply to Mike.

Mike, Montague’s unique design allows me to take my bike anywhere in the world without question, and then to fly home without locating or moving a box around after I finish cycling between two airports. That’s worth the 8+ hours of dissembly and rebuild I need to do each time I go for a week or more of international touring. Also I can get the bike onto an intercity train in Europe as general luggage with only about 15 minutes of packing, which can be invaluable for European summer travel. While we all have different motivations, it likely isn’t worth the time and effort to pack a bike if you are flying domestic and can easily use a full sized box or are just trying to save a little bit of money on your ticket.

Andy, my Montague has flown on several dozen flights now, including small budget carriers in Europe. No gate agent has ever measured the bag. It is always weighed, but as long as I make sure to say that it is a bike and also that it is packed under standard suitcase size it goes through easily and without extra charge. The agent usually gives me a compliment on the packing then directs me to oversized after check in.

The front wheel comes off, but the back wheel stays on the frame with the disc brake rotor removed. I expect a certain amount of cosmetic damage from moving the bike around in a bag with minimal padding. To date that has been limited to paint scratches, but nothing else.

Comment on Montague Bikes: How to Spot a Counterfeit by Albert https://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2014/09/montague-bikes-how-to-spot-a-counterfeit/#comment-187523 Sat, 28 Jun 2025 15:15:29 +0000 http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/?p=9274#comment-187523 Can you please tell me if this bike is a genuine Montague? It is harder to tell with the dropout shape because it’s all black. It’s an older model. I am beginning to think it is a fake.
There are 10 pictures on the listing. Thank you.

Comment on Bicycle Wheel Sizes Explained by John https://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2019/06/bicycle-wheel-sizes-explained/#comment-187466 Thu, 26 Jun 2025 02:26:45 +0000 https://www.montaguebikes.com/?p=59336#comment-187466 This is what I think :

on a hybrid tyre:
28-622
700x28C
28×1 5/8 , 28x 1 1/4

the first figures relate to the rim, the width of the rim, and the diameter of the rim.

The last figure relates to the tyre in relation to the rim.
so, the tyre fits a rim that is made for a tyre that is referred to as 28″ in diameter , this is not usually its actual diameter.
and it fits a rim made for a tyre that has a nominal width of 1 5/8 or 1 1/8″.
if the figure is a decimal, then it is the actual width of the tyre when fitted.
the height or profile of the tyre can only be inferred in that the width is relative to the profile, however it will differ with different wheel sizes.

the 700 X 28C is essentially meaningless nowadays.

is this correct ?

Comment on Montague Overhaul VIII: Saddles and Saddle Position by Joe https://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/2013/01/montague-overhaul-viii-saddles-and-saddle-position/#comment-185766 Wed, 14 May 2025 06:31:03 +0000 http://www.montaguebikes.com/folding-bikes-blog/?p=5976#comment-185766 I have what looks like a Montague Biframe hybrid with BMW branding from likely 1993 (based on the Shimano components). It’s missing the seat post, and from measurements with my non digital caliper, it’s hard to see if I need a 26 or 26.2mm one. Would you be able to help? Thanks!!
